Connect Vidyard to Salesforce

Vidyard for Salesforce gives you the power to record, access, share, and personalize content in the format that consumers and customers demand: video. Start right here to Connect Vidyard to Salesforce - it should take around 30 mins or less to complete the setup.

This guide will help you install and configure Vidyard for Salesforce. Along the way, you’ll find suggestions from Vidyard on configurations you can make to simplify the setup process.

Setting up Vidyard for Salesforce has five parts to it:

Part 1: Install the Vidyard App for Salesforce
Part 2: Configure Permissions
Part 3: Connect Vidyard to Salesforce
Part 4: Customize Layouts with Vidyard Components
Part 5: Add Video Preview to Video View Page Layout

Before we begin, let’s take a look at the requirements to use Vidyard for Salesforce.


  • Vidyard account
  • Salesforce integration option for Vidyard
  • Salesforce Enterprise/Platform/Developer/Unlimited
  • Salesforce Chatter required for Chatter video sharing
  • Administrator access to Salesforce
  • Vidyard for Salesforce application package version 1.22.1

Permissions required for setup

The Salesforce user who sets up a Vidyard for Salesforce integration requires the following Salesforce permissions:

  • Permission to use the connected App in Salesforce
  • Read & write access to the Vidyard Video View custom object
  • Read & write access to leads
  • Read & write access to contacts & users

Part 1: Install the App

Note: If you would like to install the Vidyard app into your Sandbox Salesforce instance, first complete the steps in our article Install the Sandbox Application Package, then complete the steps below.  

Install the Vidyard App for Salesforce

The next step in setting up Vidyard for Salesforce is to install the Vidyard application into your Salesforce environment. 

Note: A Salesforce instance can only be integrated with one of your Vidyard groups. It's recommended to sign out of any other Salesforce instances prior to setting up integration.

To install Vidyard for Salesforce, complete the following steps:

  1. In a web browser, navigate to Vidyard in the the Salesfroce AppExchange.
  2. Click Get it Now from the application information page.
  3. If not already signed into Salesforce, provide your credentials (must be your Production credentials even if installing in Sandbox).
    Note: Our connected app uses OAuth service providers and requires an account configured with OAuth during installation. Using an account configured with Single Sign On (SSO) will fail during install with an error similar to the following:

  4. Select your environment type: Production or Sandbox (for testing).
  5. Select the checkbox I have read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  6. Click Confirm and Install.
  7. Review the package items and click Continue.
  8. If required, click Next on the Approve access to the API page. 
  9. On the security access page, select Install for All Users.
    Select Grant Access to All Users. 
  10. Click Install.
    Note: The package installation may take a few minutes. During this time, do not refresh the page or use the back button.

  11. Click Done on the Installation Complete! notification.

Success! You can now begin configuring Salesforce to use Vidyard.

Part 2: Configure Permissions

With Vidyard installed and linked to Salesforce, you’ll need to finish setting up the permissions to allow your users to access Vidyard.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Salesforce account
  2. In the top-right corner, click your name and click Setup.
    Setup menu option.  
  3. On the left side menu, under Administration Setup, click Manage Apps.
  4. Click Connected Apps.
  5. Find Vidyard and click the Edit link to the left.
  6. Under OAuth Policies set the Permitted Users to Admin approved users are pre-authorized.
  7. Click Save.
    In Permitted Users list click Admin approved users are pre-authorized. 
  8. Navigate to the Vidyard Connected App detail page (Administration Setup > Manage Apps > Connected Apps > Vidyard).
  9. Choose which users will have access to Vidyard.
    • To allow access by Profile, click Manage Profiles.
    • To allow access by Permission Set, click Manage Permission Sets.
      Note: A profile or permission set needs to be added and the Salesforce account being used for the Vidyard integration needs to be a member of the added profile or permission set to complete the integration.

If using permission sets, you can create or use an existing set, but will be unable to use the Vidyard Application permission set. With user permissions configured, the final step is to add the Vidyard components to the necessary page layouts.

Part 3: Connect Vidyard to Salesforce

Linking your Vidyard and Salesforce accounts allows the platforms to exchange data related to your videos.

Note: The account being used to establish the connection needs to be a Salesforce Administrator with the following:

  • View All and Modify All Standard Object Permissions for both Contacts and Leads.
  • View All and Modify All Custom Object Permissions for Video Views.

To connect your Vidyard account with Salesforce, complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Vidyard account
  2. From the dashboard, click on Group > Integrations.
    In the Group menu, click Integrations.
  3. Under Integrations, click Salesforce, then Connect a Salesforce Account.

    If your Salesforce instance uses login restrictions you may encounter a username/password error and be unable to integrate with Vidyard. As a workaround, change your authentication URL from to as shown below:

  4. You will be prompted by Salesforce to allow the permissions requested by Vidyard. Click Allow.

  5. Once the accounts are connected, a notification will be displayed.

Part 4: Customize Layouts with Vidyard Components

Add the Vidyard Video Views related list component to your layouts to allow your users to make use of the Vidyard tools right within Salesforce.

Note: If you want to add video to the Chatter publisher, or to add the Send Video Email button to Salesforce, visit those articles next. Please note that these features may require an additional license. Please contact your Account or Customer Success Manager should you require more information. 

Note: Not all layouts look the same. Where you can place the Vidyard components will depend on your existing layout and your organizational preferences.

To customize your layout, complete the following steps:

  1. On the left side menu, navigate to App Setup > Customize > Leads > Page Layouts.

  2. Select the layout you wish to modify and click Edit.
  3. From the Lead Layout pane, select Related Lists.
  4. Drag the Video Views related list to the layout.
  5. On the Video View panel, click the wrench icon.
  6. Expand the Buttons section.
  7. Clear the New checkbox, then click OK.

  8. In the Lead Layout pane, click Save.

    Important: Since you’re adding a new related list, you’ll be asked if you want to overwrite your users’ personal related list customizations. If you click No, you will save the Vidyard related list to the layout without changing the customizations your users have made.

Part 5: Add Video Preview to Video View Page Layout

To see the video preview inside of Salesforce, the preview must be added to the page layout of the Video View object's details page. 

To configure this, complete the following steps:

  • In Salesforce, click Setup.
  • Under App Setup click Create.
  • Click Objects.
  • Find and click the Video View label.
  • Scroll down to Page Layouts and click Edit beside the Video View Layout.
  • In the Video View Layout editor, choose Visualforce Pages.
  • Drag vyVideoPlayer to a location on the page layout under Video View Detail.
  • Hover over the newly added label and click the wrench icon.
  • Choose a width and height in pixels (width: 400px, height: 225px is recommended).
  • Save your changes.

Note: If you have a version of the Vidyard app that is version 1.22.1 or previous, consider upgrading your Vidyard app to ensure you receive all available data.
