Connect Vidyard to Salesforce

Vidyard for Salesforce gives you the power to record, access, share, and personalize content in the format that consumers and customers demand: video. Start right here to connect Vidyard to Salesforce—it should take around 20 mins or less to complete the setup.

This guide will help you install and configure Vidyard for Salesforce. Along the way, you’ll find suggestions from Vidyard on configurations you can make to simplify the setup process.

  • The Vidyard for Salesforce feature enabled
  • A Salesforce Enterprise/Platform/Developer/Unlimited account
  • Administrator permissions in Salesforce (detailed below)
  • Salesforce Chatter (if intending to use Chatter video sharing)

Salesforce permissions required for setup

The account being used to set up the Vidyard integration must have the following permissions:

  • Permission to use the connected Vidyard App in Salesforce
  • Standard Object Permissions: Full basic access and data administration permissions for both Contacts, Leads, and Users
  • Custom Object Permissions: Full basic and access data administration permissions for Video Views

Part 1: Install the App

Note: If you would like to install the Vidyard app into your Sandbox Salesforce instance, first complete the steps in our article Install the Sandbox Application Package, then complete the steps below.  

Install the Vidyard App for Salesforce

Important: It's recommended that you sign out all Salesforce instances prior to setting up the integration.

To install Vidyard for Salesforce, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Vidyard in the Salesforce AppExchange.
  2. Click Get it Now from the application information page.
    • If not already signed into Salesforce, provide your credentials (must be your Production credentials even if installing in Sandbox).
      Note: Our connected app uses OAuth service providers and requires an account configured with OAuth during installation. Using an account configured with Single Sign On (SSO) will cause installation to fail and produce an error similar to the following:

  3. Select your environment type: Production or Sandbox (for testing).
  4. Select the checkbox I have read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Click Confirm and Install.
  6. Review the package items and click Continue.
  7. If required, click Next on the Approve access to the API page. 
  8. On the security access page, select Install for All Users, then click Install
    Note: The package installation may take a few minutes. During this time, do not refresh the page or use the back button.
    Select Grant Access to All Users. 
  9. Click Done on the Installation Complete! notification.

Part 2: Configure Permissions

With the Vidyard package installed, you’ll need to ensure permissions are configured to allow your users access to the Vidyard application and its components in Salesforce.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Salesforce account
  2. In the top-right corner, click your name and click Setup.
    Setup menu option.  
  3. On the left side menu, under Administration Setup, click Manage Apps > Connected Apps
  4. Find the Vidyard connected app and select Edit
  5. Under OAuth Policies set Permitted Users to Admin approved users are pre-authorized, then click Save
    In Permitted Users list click Admin approved users are pre-authorized. 
  6. Navigate to the Vidyard Connected App detail page (Administration Setup > Manage Apps > Connected Apps > Vidyard).
  7. Choose which users will have access to Vidyard:
    • To allow access by Profile, click Manage Profiles.
    • To allow access by Permission Set, click Manage Permission Sets.
      Note: For a Salesforce account to use the Vidyard integration, its user must be a member of the profile or permission set permitted to access the application. If using a permission set, you may choose use an existing set or create a new one. However, avoid adding users to the Vidyard Application permission.

Part 3: Connect Vidyard to Salesforce

Linking your Vidyard and Salesforce accounts allows the platforms to exchange data related to your videos.

To connect your Vidyard account with Salesforce, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Vidyard dashboard, click on Group > Integrations.
  2. Select Salesforce, then Connect a Salesforce Account.Steps from Vidyard dashboard to create integration with Salesforce
    • Note: Depending on your company's settings and/or whether your Salesforce account has been secured using Single Sign On, you may be asked to authenticate into the platform.
    • Moreover, if your Salesforce instance uses login restrictions you may encounter a username/password error that prevents you from completing the integration with Vidyard. As a workaround, change your authentication URL from to as shown below:

  3. Salesforce will prompt you to accept the permissions being requested by Vidyard. Click Allow.

  4. Once the accounts are connected, a success notification will display

Part 4: Customize Layouts with Vidyard Components

Consider: The Vidyard Video View object can be added to several page layouts in Salesforce.

Keep in mind—not all Salesforce layouts are created equally. Depending on your existing layouts and organizational preferences, the Vidyard object may be added to some or all of the following locations:

  • Contact and Leads page layouts
    • Add video view data to contacts and leads layouts to understand how prospects and customers are engaging with video
  • User Profile page layout
    • Add video view data to the user profile layout to understand how employees are engaging with video and internal communications
    • Viewable only on user profiles in Lightning Experience

To customize your layout, complete the following steps:

  1. On the left side menu, navigate to Customize > Leads > Page Layouts.
    • For Contacts, navigate to Customize > Contacts > Page Layouts
    • For Users, navigate to Customize > Users > Page Layouts, then edit User Profile Layout

  2. Select a page layout to modify:
    • Click Edit next to the layout 
    • From the Layout pane, select Related Lists
    • Drag the Video Views related list onto the layoutPage layout interface in Salesforce, demonstrating how to add Video Views related list to Leads Layout
  3. Configure the Video Views related list properties:
    • On the Video View related list panel, click the wrench icon.
    • Use the + icon to expand the Buttons section.
    • Clear the New checkbox, then click OK.

  4. Click Save to ensure the changes are applied.

    Important: When adding a new related list, you’ll be asked if you want to overwrite your users’ personal related list customizations. If you click No, the Vidyard related list will be saved to the layout without changing the customizations that your users have made.
