Broadcast Software
The software used to capture your broadcast must support the ability to post an RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) stream to a URL on the Internet. The RTMP stream will be supplied to an ingestion endpoint on the Vidyard infrastructure.
The following software products are known to support this and can be used for testing:
- Open Broadcaster Software
- XSplit
- Wirecast
For live streaming broadcasts, Vidyard suggests using a professional grade solution such as Wirecast.
Internet Connection
The broadcast machine should have a dedicated, hard-wired connection directly to the external Internet. Ideally, there should not be a firewall between the broadcasting machine and the Internet. Latency to the Vidyard RTMP ingestion endpoint should be kept to a minimum. Wi-Fi connections are not recommended.
The following table is a guideline for the minimum upstream bandwidth requirements. Please note these are guidelines and must be adjusted to incorporate any additional overhead for your network (typically +20% Mbps).
Resolution | Upload Speed | Recommended Bitrate |
---|---|---|
360p | 0.8 – 2 Mbps | 750 kbit/s |
720p | 5 – 8 Mbps | 2500 kbit/s |
1080p | 5 – 12 Mbps | 4500 kbit/s |
Note: The recommended bitrates are for videos uploading at 30fps. Changes to your bitrate can be made to accommodate for lower upload speeds.
If you are unsure of your machine’s upload speed, use speedtest.net to test you current speed.
Vidyard Account
Your Account Manager must enable the Live Streaming feature in your Vidyard account.
