When you record a video with Vidyard, you can choose to mirror your camera input. Mirroring lets you flip your camera vertically so that text, like a whiteboard, book, or backdrop, is readable in your video.

Simply turn the Mirror Camera setting ON or OFF depending on the type of video you want to make and what feels most comfortable to record.

Here's a quick breakdown of the Mirror Camera setting and some reasons why you might want to turn it ON or OFF:

Setting status Benefit
Mirror Camera (ON)
Matches what you see
  • Looks and feels most natural (like looking in a mirror)
  • Best for camera-only videos
Mirror Camera (OFF)
Opposite of what you see
  • Useful to ensure that text (a whiteboard or notepad) is readable in your video

Change the Mirror Camera setting

You can turn Mirror Camera on or off in your Vidyard browser extension or desktop app settings.

Select a tab to learn more:
  1. Open the Vidyard browser extension
  2. Select Settings, then Preferences
  3. Select the Mirror camera toggle

  1. Open the Vidyard desktop app
  2. Select the Mirror camera box underneath the camera and microphone inputs
  3. Start your recording!
Note: the Mirror camera setting on the desktop app only applies to what you see while recording. The final video output is not mirrored.

Note: When recording with the mobile app, you cannot change how your camera is mirrored. The mobile app automatically mirrors your camera while recording, but the video's output is not mirrored. This matches the experience you have when you record with your phone's camera app.
