How to use Vidyard's keyboard shortcuts
Use keyboard shortcuts to save time and make navigating Vidyard easy ⌨️
Below, you'll find instructions on how to use your keyboard to:
- Navigate and use Vidyard (on the web, browser extension, and desktop app)
- Record a video with the browser extension
- Control playback while watching a Vidyard video
General keyboard shortcuts
Wherever you use Vidyard (on the web, browser extension, or desktop app), you can use the tab, shift, enter, and esc keys to shift focus and select different elements on the user interface (UI).
If you're watching a Vidyard video, use the same keys to move around and interact with the player controls.

Browser extension keyboard shortcuts
The browser extension has several keyboard shortcuts that can be used to activate the extension, pause/resume, restart, and stop a recording.
The extension's shortcuts are especially helpful if...
- you hide the recording controls in your extension preferences, but still want to be able to pause/resume, stop, and restart
- you want to avoid distracting viewers with mouse clicks 🖱️
Activate the extension — Shift(⇧) + Option (⌥) + V
Stop recording — Shift(⇧) + Command (⌘) + 2
Pause/Resume recording — Shift(⇧) + Command (⌘) + 1
Restart recording — Shift(⇧) + Command (⌘) + 0
Activate the extension — Shift + Alt + V
Stop recording — Shift + Ctrl + 2
Pause/Resume recording — Shift + Ctrl + 1
Restart recording — Shift + Ctrl + 0
Change your browser extension shortcuts
If you prefer to use a different combination of keys, you can change Vidyard's default shortcuts in the extension settings for Chrome or Edge. Watch the video or follow the steps below:

- Copy & paste the following link in a new browser tab to open your extension settings

- Select the edit (✏️) icon beside the shortcut you want to change
- Enter your new shortcut

- Set whether your shortcuts can be used In Chrome/Edge or Global
- In Chrome/Edge - shortcut can only be used when you have the browser open and selected
- Global (recommended) - shortcut can be used when the browser is not actively open or in focus (for example, when recording over a different application)
