You must be a Business Admin in Gong to create or edit briefs

After you’ve connected Vidyard’s MCP Client in Gong, you can start using your video engagement information alongside other CRM data to have full visibility into how accounts are interacting with you. Use this to see which videos resonate with your audience, determine and address pain points, and much more.

Check out the steps below to learn how to create a brief, prompt the Vidyard MCP client, and bring in information from any of your connected CRMs to create a summary that works best for you.

What is the Gong AI Briefer?

Gong’s AI Briefer is an AI Agent that gives your users structured summaries they can then query for any additional information they need.

Using Vidyard’s MCP, you can create a brief with a prompt that compiles and formats video data, giving you easy access to the engagement information you need to move to the next step.

You can learn more about how the AI Briefer works in Gong's Help Center.

How to format and improve your brief’s MCP prompt

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your brief.

Keep in mind that finding a good prompt to enter into the brief’s details can take some trial and error. You can go back and change it at any time if it doesn’t provide the results you want or expect.

Using field placeholders to access data from your CRMs

Gong’s field placeholders aren’t the only option you can use in your MCP prompt. By changing your CRM settings, you can add custom placeholders from your connected Salesforce or HubSpot platforms.

  1. Enter your Gong Admin Center, then select CRM Settings under the CRM section Gong Admin Center with CRM settings option selected
  2. Choose the Data Import tab to see your CRM field options
  3. Check the box for any fields you want to add, then turn on the Create placeholder toggle
  4. Select Save when finished Salesforce CRM connection in Gong with placeholders selected from field list

Once you’ve saved your changes, you’ll see the CRM fields option when you add placeholders to your MCP prompt. Any placeholder you toggle on in your CRM settings will appear in the list.

Tips on prompt formatting

This list isn’t exhaustive, but should give you a good starting point on how to best structure your prompt with the Briefer.

  • Be explicit about what you want the AI Briefer to do. More detailed instructions help AI focus on the information that’s most important to you, in the format that’s easiest to understand.
  • Testing the brief with the Preview option can help you pinpoint any areas that might need editing.
  • Depending on the length and depth of your prompt, using bullet points instead of a chunk of text can make it more digestible for the AI Briefer.
  • Clarify any industry-specific terms to improve your response quality.
  • To stress the importance of any aspect of the prompt, use capital letters.

Prompt examples

Here are some examples of ways you can format your brief prompt to achieve different results. These can give you a good jumping-off point to create your own prompts that work best for your specific use case.

Intended result - Monthly video activity for a customer

Prompt - Check Vidyard for video-viewing activity from {{customer_company_name}}. Only read Vidyard data. Use a rolling last-30-days window, counted back from today, using the EST (America/Toronto) timezone. If the account name above is blank, write that Gong passed no account name to this section, and stop.

Intended result - The analytics on videos grouped by Campaign ID

Prompt - Search for any video viewed by a member of {{customer_company_name}} based on their email domain. DO NOT return video results that are not tied to a viewer with that domain. Format these videos into a bullet point list grouped by their campaign ID {{Vidyard_Campaign_ID__c}}. Each point should include the video title, views in the last 7 days, how many of those views were identified, and the action click rate for any actions on the video.

Note: This prompt example uses a placeholder from a connected CRM.

Intended result - A full review of how an account is engaging with your videos

Prompt - Write this section like the other sections of a deal review: short, factual bullet points using complete sentences, plain text, and no notes about your search process. Use this order:

  • Open with one line: "Vidyard video engagement for {{customer_company_name}} for the last 30 days."
  • Videos with activity: one bullet point each that includes the title, total views, and view rate. Group the videos with no views under a single bullet point.
  • Viewers identified as {{customer_company_name}} contacts by their email domain: one bullet point each that includes the viewer's email, percent watched, and the watch date, exactly as the tool returned them. If none match, write: "No viewers could be identified as company contacts in this window; anonymous views can't be tied to a company."
  • Calls-to-action: one bullet point each that includes the name of the action that was clicked and how many times.
