Why can I not see a higher resolution option for my uploaded video?

Overview

Currently Vidyard supports delivering videos in the following outputs - 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 2160p (4k). The option to choose one of these is available on the player during playback and we will render each option automatically, depending on the availability in the source file.

Symptom

You expected to see an option that is not available.

Cause

It is likely that the source file did not have the required resolution.

For example, 2160p is the equivalent of 3840 x 2160px, so the video needs to match that resolution or have larger dimensions.

Uploading a file of a smaller resolution than the desired output will not work - we do not upscale.

Solution

You could upscale the video manually so that it is of the size desired before uploading. In theory, you were expecting some automatic upscaling anyway, so the output should look as intended.

If you notice any distortion or blur by doing that, you should try recreating the video with a higher resolution which at least matches the intended resolution to begin with.
