Video usage and length limits in Vidyard Free
Understand how limits apply to your Free account ?
Vidyard Free accounts include limits on the number of videos you can record per month, and the length of new recordings.
In this article, you'll learn about:
- The changes we've made to limits on Free accounts
- How the video usage limit works
- How the video length limit works
About the limit changes in Vidyard Free
Along with many improvements to the Vidyard platform, we've changed our limits to users with Vidyard Free accounts.
Starting in September 2024, limits were changed for all new users who signed up for Vidyard Free. These changes were applied to existing users in March of 2025.
- A limit of 5 total videos created per month, that refreshes every month based on the date you created your account (ie. if you started on the 20th, it refreshes on the 20th of each month)
These changes remove the previous limit on the amount of videos you could store in your library (previous lifetime limit of 25), which means you can keep all of your quality recordings in one place without having to worry about deleting videos to make room.
Video usage limits
Whether you use Vidyard Free as an individual or as part of a workspace, your account includes a limit of 5 videos created per month. Each video that you record (via our browser extension, desktop app, or other recording tools) counts towards your monthly limit, even if you delete it afterward.
Once you reach your limit, you'll receive a notification in Vidyard that prompts you to upgrade to a paid plan.
Please note that your existing videos never expire, and there is no limit to the amount of videos you can have in your library at once.

How do I know what my current video limit is?
Sign in to your Vidyard account in a browser window and open your video Library . You'll see your current total in the top right-hand corner (x/5 videos).
Am I notified when I'm approaching my limit?
Yes, we'll send you a reminder in Vidyard when you're getting close to your limit (after you record 4 videos that month).
You'll also receive an email, and a message in Vidyard once you've reached 5 videos that month. If you try to record a new video, we'll prompt you to upgrade your account.
Do duplicate videos or playlists count towards my limit?
If you duplicate a video, the new copy of the video counts towards your 5-video per month limit. Even if you duplicate someone else’s video in a workspace, the new copy of the video counts toward your limit since the copy now belongs to you.
Creating Playlists combine videos that you already have in your library, and therefore do not count toward the 5-video limit.
What happens if I delete a video that I already shared?
Once you’ve recorded a video, that recording counts to your monthly maximum of 5 videos. If you delete a video, it does not affect how many you have remaining in your monthly maximum. For example, if you create 4 videos in September, and delete 1, you still only have one video remaining in your monthly allotment.
Video recording length limits
Vidyard Free plans include a 30-minute length limit on new recordings. Whether you record videos with the browser extension, desktop app, or another Vidyard recording tool, your recording will stop at 30 minutes.
Don't worry–as you approach the 30-minute mark, we'll give you a warning notification. If you do reach the limit, we still add the video you've recorded so far to your library.
Plan Type | Recording Length Limit |
Free | 30 min |
Starter | Unlimited* |

Can I keep track of how long I've been recording?
You can always look at your recording controls to keep track of how long you've been recording. If you choose to record your screen, you'll find the controls in the bottom corner of the window or monitor that you're capturing.
Just make sure you have recording controls enabled in your preferences.
To make sure you can wrap up your recording successfully, we'll give you a warning notification on your screen 5 minutes and 1 minute before you reach the 30-minute mark.
Does the length limit apply to playlists?
No, the length limit only applies to videos that you record. If you create a playlist, we do not count the total runtime of all videos in the list.
