You can record videos with the Vidyard browser extension in a few simple steps.

Once you've added the extension to your browser (either Chrome or Microsoft Edge), select the type of video you want to create, then start to record.

If it's your first time recording a video with Vidyard, here's a quick walkthrough to get you started:

Starting a new recording

To get started, select the Vidyard extension in the upper-right corner of your browser

You can also launch Vidyard by hovering over the button at the bottom of your browser and selecting Record Video.

You can then decide whether you'd like to record your camera, screen, or both. You'll also see your audio level right next to your microphone options, so you can confirm your mic is picking up sound.

Once you're satisfied with the recording options you've selected, click on Start Recording.

How to record with your camera

If you select No screen from the Record screen options, you'll record a camera-only video, perfect for personal messages.

  1. Open the Vidyard extension, then select No screen from the Record screen dropdown menu
  2. Use the dropdown menu to select the webcam you'd like to use (if you have multiple)
  3. Select Start Recording to begin the 3-second pre-recording countdown

How to record your screen

To share your screen, select a tab, window, or your entire screen from the Record screen dropdown menu. Use the Camera dropdown to choose to keep your camera off and record only the screen, or have your camera bubble (or profile picture) appear in the recording.

You can also add a name tag, notes, or change your camera bubble background or profile picture while recording your screen.

  1. Open the Vidyard extension, then select an option from the Record screen dropdown menu
    • Browser tab - Share a tab from your browser. Nothing will be visible outside of the tab, including the URL bar/other tabs.
    • Window - Share all contents of a window. You can switch between browser tabs at any time during recording.
    • Entire screen - Share everything on your monitor. Anything visible on that monitor screen will be visible in your recording (including notes)
  2. Use the Camera dropdown menu to select either a webcam, your profile picture, or no camera for the recording
  3. Select Start recording

Using recording controls

If you hover over the recording controls at the bottom of the screen during a recording, you'll see the following options:

  • Stop - Stop the recording when you're finished. The video will be added to your library.
  • Pause - Pause and play your recording if you need to take a break.
  • Restart - Start your recording over from the beginning. The current version will be lost.
  • Discard - Stop recording, and discard your current recording session.

If your recording controls are hidden, click the Vidyard extension icon or use our keyboard shortcuts to stop the recording.

Preview your finished recording

Once you've stopped recording, you can review your video in the extension before sharing or making changes, and Vidyard will automatically give you a clear, descriptive title based on the recording's content. You can also:

  • Restart your recording from scratch
  • Copy your video's sharing link
  • Edit your title
  • Select Edit Video to make changes in Vidyard, including your thumbnail preference for new extension recordings
    • If you prefer to go directly to the video edit page in Vidyard after recording, turn off Recording preview in your extension preferences
