How to capture system or browser audio when recording a video 🔊
When you record a video with Vidyard, the primary source of audio comes from your computer's built-in microphone (or an external mic that you're using) so that viewers can hear you speak.
But did you know that you can also capture audio that plays from an internal source on your computer? This could be audio from YouTube, Zoom calls, a music streaming service or other media players.
When recording your screen with Vidyard, you can capture internal audio in 1 of 2 ways:
- audio from a browser tab: any sound that occurs from within a browser tab and plays on your computer's speakers
- system (computer) audio: any and all audio originating from applications on your computer, not just a browser tab (currently only supported on Windows or Chromebook devices).
Record audio from a browser tab
Open your Vidyard recording tool of choice, then start a screen recording. The browser will prompt you to choose which part of your screen you want share in the recording.
- Click on Chrome or Edge Tab (depending on your browser), then select the tab with the audio source you want to record
- Select the Share audio checkbox
- Select Share to begin
Record system (computer) audio
Open your Vidyard recording tool of choice, then start a screen recording. The browser will prompt you to choose the part of your screen you want share in the recording.
- Click on Your Entire Screen, then select which screen you want to record (if you have more than one).
- Select the Share audio checkbox
- Select Share to begin
Support for audio capture (based on browser/OS)
Support for audio capture differs based on your device's operating system (OS) and the web browser that you use.
- Audio capture from a browser tab is widely supported across different browsers and OSes
- Capturing system audio is limited mainly to Windows devices and ChromeOS (if using a Chromebook).
