How to publish your video to YouTube
With Vidyard's integration for YouTube, you can publish any video in your library directly to a connected YouTube account.
When you publish to your channel, Vidyard directly uploads the video so that it plays natively within YouTube. You'll find the video alongside the rest of the content in your channel's library.
In this article, you'll learn how to:
- publish your videos to a connected YouTube channel
- sync changes made in Vidyard to your published video on YouTube
- manage your published videos in Vidyard
- troubleshoot error and status messages
- see views from your published videos in Vidyard's Insights (applies to: Vidyard Business plans)

Sync changes to your published video on YouTube
Whenever changes are made to your video on Vidyard, you can use Sync to keep the corresponding, published video on your YouTube channel up-to-date.
Syncing allows you to copy the updated video details from Vidyard (title, description, thumbnail, tags, and captions) and overwrite your published video on YouTube.
A notification banner will appear in Vidyard to inform you that a change has been made to your video, and that you can choose to sync the updates over to YouTube.
Go to the Locations panel for your video in Vidyard to perform a sync.
- Select the video from your library, then go to Video > Locations in the side menu
- Select Sync next to the YouTube channel where you want to update your published video

See views from your published videos in Vidyard
Vidyard keeps track of the number of views that published videos receive on your connected YouTube accounts. This allows you to review video performance across different channels from a single dashboard.

- Sign in to your Vidyard account in a browser
- Select Insights > Dashboard from the main menu
- If necessary, select Change Folders to switch your view of the insights in your account (account-wide versus a specific folder)

You can find status messages in a video's Locations panel in Vidyard. The table below explains each status, and what steps you can take to resolve any errors.
If you are unable to resolve a problem with YouTube, contact our Support Team for further assistance.

Frequently asked questions
Why are Vidyard's settings and features not showing up on YouTube?
When you publish to YouTube, Vidyard directly uploads the video file to your channel. This means that, on YouTube, your published video uses YouTube's native video player.
With your published video, you can then take advantage of YouTube's built-in functionality and its importance as a top-of-funnel marketing channel. However, advanced features from Vidyard (design & access settings, notifications, CTAs, video insights, and integrations with MAP/CRM platforms) are not available or usable directly on YouTube.
What details from my video can I publish to YouTube?
The set of details from your video that you can publish to YouTube differs based on your Vidyard account type (Free, Pro, Business).
For example, Free and Pro accounts do not have the ability to add captions or tags to their videos in Vidyard, so these values cannot be copied over to YouTube. However, when you first publish a video, you do have the opportunity to enter a description and tags that you would like the video on YouTube to have once it has been published.
Regardless of your Vidyard account's plan type, you can always edit the video on YouTube to add your own captions, tags, or other details.

Captions | No | Yes (captions must be published in order to upload to YouTube) |
Privacy | Yes, you can choose one of YouTube's privacy settings when you publish or sync changes to your published video |
Can I choose whether viewers are allowed to embed my published video?
Once the video has uploaded, you can change the setting to Allow embedding on your published video in YouTube.
Vidyard does not set or change this setting when you publish to YouTube or use Sync to update the video.
Can I publish a playlist to YouTube?
No, you can only publish individual videos from Vidyard to YouTube. However, you can create a playlist on YouTube once your videos have been uploaded.
Will Vidyard overwrite or delete my videos on YouTube?
Vidyard will only ever overwrite your published video's details on YouTube if you or another member of your account with permission uses the Sync option to copy over updated details about the video (title, description, thumbnail, etc).
Vidyard never deletes any videos or other assets, like captions, on your YouTube channel.
How do I know when changes have been made to my video on Vidyard?
A notification banner will appear at the top of your video's edit page in Vidyard to inform you that a change has been made, and you can choose to Sync the updates over to YouTube. Only users with the Push to YouTube permission can see or action the banner.
You will also notice that the status of the video appears as Out of Sync in the Locations panel.
You may have to cross-reference with YouTube to identify which video detail was updated (title, description, thumbnail, tags, or captions). Open the menu next to the out-of-sync account in the Locations panel, then select View on YouTube to go directly to the video.
Do I have to sync changes to YouTube every time I make an update in Vidyard?
No. In fact, you may choose to have a different title, description, thumbnail, tags, or captions on Vidyard versus your published video on YouTube. The Sync button simply provides you with the option to easily keep your videos on both platforms aligned.
Does Vidyard update my published video on YouTube if I use Trim or Replace?
Changes made to your video in Vidyard using either Trim or Replace do not apply to your published video on YouTube.
In fact, both Trim and Replace overwrite the original video file in Vidyard, and therefore cause your video to unlink with YouTube. Unlinking means that:
- you can no longer sync your video details from Vidyard to the published video on YouTube
- any future views that the published video receives on YouTube will not appear in Vidyard's Insights (applies to Business accounts)
This action cannot be reversed.
How do I reconnect Vidyard to YouTube if there's a problem with the integration?
If you encounter a Missing Connection error, you may need to Reconnect the integration with Vidyard to resolve the problem.
When an account is in a disconnected state, you have 30 days to reconnect, after which YouTube requires that we remove data associated with the integration. Learn more about reconnecting your account.
