How do I recover a failed video in the browser extension?

The Vidyard browser extension lets you create and share videos, even when your internet connection unexpectedly drops in quality or fails altogether.

When creating a new video, the extension temporarily keeps your recording in the area of your computer's local storage utilized by your browser.

If you experience network problems while making a video, the recording will continue as normal. Vidyard will hold on to the video in your computer's local storage until your internet connection improves. You will then have the option to recover the video.

What to expect when a recording fails

Should the quality of your internet connection drop, recording will continue as normal, so you're not interrupted. Once you've finished recording, Vidyard will display the following Chrome notification:

Check your internet connection. It may not be performing well.

Recover your video

Once you have regained an internet connection:

  1. Re-open the extension and choose to Recover, Download, or Discard your recording
Re-established connection window with option to recover, download, or delete your recording
  2. If you choose Recover, your video will begin processing in the extension before being added to your library

If your video still fails to recover, check your internet connection upload speed.

You can also try reloading the extension or restarting your browser altogether (Command + Q on Mac or Ctrl + Shift + Q on Windows) before trying to recover the video again.

Frequently asked questions

What if I have no space in local storage?

If you do not have available space in local storage, Vidyard will not prevent you from recording. However, should your internet connection fail, you may not be able to recover the video.

If Vidyard is unable to save your recording locally, you will be alerted by a Chrome notification indicating that your local save space is low:
