What does the "Slow Connection" status mean when using the Vidyard Chrome extension?
What is the slow connection status?
In order to record videos, the Vidyard Chrome extension uses a combination of browser resources, local storage, and your computer's camera and microphone. If using Chrome v.62 or higher, you may receive a Slow Connection status when the browser detects that the network is unable to upload more than 4G (approximately 2mbit/sec or less).
A slow connection status does not prevent you from recording; however, it does indicate that the recording and uploading process may take longer than usual.
How do I know if I have a slow connection?
A slow connection prompt may appear in two different locations when using the Vidyard Chrome extension.
- When recording fullscreen or tab with your camera enabled:
- When recording with your camera only:
How do I fix a slow connection?
It is recommended that you look to improve your internet connection or network speed before recording. The chances of a failed recording are greater without a solid internet connection.
If a recording fails due to a slow connection, Vidyard may able to recover your video once your network connection has improved.
If you feel as though your network speed is adequate for recording, try running an online speed test to verify the current upload and download speeds on your server. Doing this can reveal that you are having issues that may potentially be improved by:
- Reducing the number of downloads/uploads that are currently happening on your network
- Turning off your VPN (if applicable)
- Moving closer to your WiFi router (if applicable)
It is good practice to fully restart your machine before running any of these tests.
