You can use Vidyard to quickly and easily share videos in your company's Chatter feed. Simply copy and paste the sharing page link for your video into a new post to share and collaborate with your team.

  • Play videos inline in the Chatter feed (*subject to your company's Chatter and video sharing page settings)
  • Add security to your videos to restrict playback to your intended audience
  • Identify the viewer of your videos on Chatter

The Vidyard for Salesforce integration is not required in order to share videos on Chatter.

Requirements

Share a video to Chatter

  1. In Vidyard, select the Library button from the navigation menu
2. Hover over the video you want to share, then select the Share buttonOpening the sharing options for a video in Vidyard
  3. Select Copy Link to obtain the sharing page URL for your video Copying the link to the video sharing page
  4. Paste the video sharing page link into a new Chatter Post, then click SharePasting the sharing page link into a new Chatter post in Salesforce

Will my video play inline in the Chatter feed?

If Rich Link Previews has been enabled in your organization's Chatter settings, Salesforce will allow video sharing page links that use vidyard.com as the domain to play inline in the feed.

Your video will use vidyard.com as the domain so long as you have not customized the sharing page to use a unique CNAME—for example videos.yourcompanyname.com.

The following are Vidyard sharing page domains that support inline playback in Chatter:

  • share.vidyard.com
  • embed.vidyard.com
  • *.hubs.vidyard.com

A URL with any other domain will still unfurl into a rich text link, but the viewer will be taken to the sharing page in a separate browser tab in order to watch the video.

Domain type Behavior Example
Sharing page with vidyard.com domain Click to play video inline Sharing a video that can play inline in the Chatter feed
Sharing page with custom domain Click to watch video on sharing page Sharing a video that is not allowed to pay inline in the Chatter feed

Can I secure videos that I share to Chatter?

Any of the access settings that you can apply to your videos will be respected when shared to Chatter.

But keep in mind, the type of security applied will also affect whether the video is permitted to play inline (see below tables for details).

Access Setting Supported Inline? Behavior
Passwords Yes Viewers must first enter the correct password to watch the video
IP Restrictions Yes Viewers must be connected to a whitelisted IP network to watch the video
Restrict to secure platform No

Videos that have been restricted to a secure platform (for example, an SSO-secured sharing page) will not playback in the Chatter feed.

Viewers must click on the link to open the sharing page in a new tab and authenticate to the secure platform in order to watch the video

How do I identify my viewers on videos shared to Chatter?

Identifying your viewers allows Vidyard to associate video engagement data with an email address and pass that information to any integrated marketing automation or CRM platforms (including Salesforce).

How you identify your viewers depends on whether the video that you've shared to Chatter will be watched inline (within the Chatter feed itself) or on the video sharing page.

The video sharing page offers a broader range of tools to identify your viewers. As a result, you might choose to secure your videos with SSO or set up a custom sharing page domain (rather than use the default vidyard.com) to ensure that playback in the Chatter feed is not an option and that viewers must use the external link.

Inline or sharing page? Method of identification
Videos watched inline
  • Use a pre-roll email capture form to obtain the viewer's email address before the video plays. The form will appear on a video that plays inline in the Chatter feed.
