Users must have the Edit Advanced Video Settings permission enabled.

Want to limit the locations where your videos can be watched?

You can use an embed restriction to create a list of specific domains where viewers are permitted to watch your video(s).

Should someone embed your video outside of its list of authorized domains, then playback is automatically blocked to prevent anyone from watching.

Add specific domains to your video's allowlist

An embed restriction works by creating a list of domains where playback of your video is permitted. As soon as a domain is added, the video becomes restricted to the domains on the list.

Open the Settings for a video in your library to get started.

Note: Your video's sharing page is automatically included in the list of permitted domains. This allows you to continue to share the video outside of any embedded locations if needed, on a case-by-case basis.
  1. Select a video from your library to open the edit page
  2. Select  Settings > Embed Restrictions from the menu
  3. Enter a URL to add it to your list of permitted domains, then select Add Domain
    • Repeat to add further domain URLs as needed

  • Don't worry about adding http:// or https:// in the domain URL. We'll match references to both the secure and unsecure HTTP protocols. We'll also match references to domains with and without www. in the URL.

  • Rather than add multiple URLs individually, you can also use a wildcard asterisk to include all subdomains of a website in the allowlist (for example *.vidyard.com). The asterisk stands in for any information that precedes the domain name.

Removing domains from your video's allowlist

You can remove a domain from a video's allowlist at any time. Removing all domains from the list will permit viewers to watch the video in any location where it's been embedded.

  1. Select a video from your library to open the edit page
  2. Select  Settings > Embed Restrictions from the menu
  3. Select the Delete 🗑️ icon next to the domain you'd like to remove

How embed restrictions apply to playlists

Playlists inherit their settings from the videos that belong to the list. This includes any access settings that you've added to videos, like an embed restriction.

If a single video with an embed restriction is added to a playlist, then the restriction applies to the playlist as a whole.

You can always select a playlist from your library to review the domains where playback is permitted:

  1. Select a playlist from your library
  2. Scroll down to the Embed Restrictions section to review permitted domains
    • To make any changes, open the menu next to a domain (or set of domains), then select Video Settings to go to the video where the restriction is being applied
