How to protect your video with a password
You can add a password to your videos to ensure that only intended viewers are allowed to watch.
Even if someone has the link to your video or the webpage where the video is located, the viewer will be prevented from watching unless they enter a valid password.
Add a password to your video
You can add 1 or more unique passwords to a video (up to a maximum of 100). When you add a password to a video, comments are disabled (if you have the Replies setting enabled on your sharing page).
- Sign in to your Vidyard account, then select Library
- Select the title of a video from your library to open the edit page
- Scroll down to the Access section, then select Change
- In Vidyard Business accounts, select Sharing > Access from the left-hand menu, then click on Change
- In Vidyard Business accounts, select Sharing > Access from the left-hand menu, then click on Change
- Select Anyone with a password, then click Update
- Select Add Password
- Enter a password for your video (6-15 characters), then select Save to finish
- Optionally, you can set your password to expire and limit the number of times it can be used. Learn more about limits and expiry.
Password usage limits and expiry
For each password that you add to a video, you can limit the number of times it can be used and choose when the password expires. These options allow you to prevent a password from being used indefinitely.
When you add a new password to a video, use the Expires In and Uses fields to set limits:
- Use Expires In to set the password to expire after a specific number of days
- Use the Uses field to limit the number of times the password can be used before it expires
Select Save when finished.
Allow viewers to request access to your video
In Vidyard Business plans, when you select Anyone with a password you're also given the option to allow viewers to request access to your video.
Requesting access allows viewers without a password to ask a designated moderator for permission to watch the video. The moderator can then approve or deny any requests. Learn more about how to allow viewers to request access to your video.
Edit a password
You can edit an existing password to make changes at any time, including changes to when the password expires and its maximum number of uses.
Changes to existing passwords take effect immediately.
- Select the title of a video from your library to open the edit page
- Open the video's Access settings
- On Vidyard Pro: under the Access section, select Change > then click on Update while Password Protection is still selected
- On Vidyard Business: select Sharing > Access from the left-hand menu
- Open the menu (3 dots) next to a password, then select Edit
- Make any changes to your passwords
- You can update the password itself, the number of days before expiry, and the number of password uses
- Select Save to finish
Delete a password
You can delete a password if it is no longer needed.
Deleting a password is permanent and cannot be undone. If you delete the only password, anyone with the link to your video will be able to watch until a new password is added.
- Select the title of a video from your library to open the edit page
- Open the video's Access settings
- On Vidyard Pro: under the Access section, select Change > then click on Update while Password Protection is still selected
- On Vidyard Business: select Sharing > Access from the left-hand menu
- Open the menu (3 dots) next to a password, then select Delete
Remove expired passwords
When a password expires or reaches its maximum number of uses, the password's status changes from "active" to "expired" and it is no longer usable. Learn more.
Expired passwords contribute to your video's 100-password limit. To free up space and add new passwords, you can remove all expired passwords from the video at once. This action cannot be undone.
