Vidyard allows you to schedule a specific time to publish or expire (un-publish) your videos. By scheduling your video, you can control when content is available for viewers to watch.
Schedule when a video publishes
When you schedule a video, viewers may still access the sharing page or website where the video is embedded; however, the video itself will not be available to watch until the scheduled time.
Instead, a countdown sequence lets your viewers know when the video is scheduled to play.
The video will automatically begin to play for anyone on the page when the countdown reaches zero.
- Select a video from your library to edit its settings
- Select Settings > Schedule Video from the left-hand menu
- Switch the Release Date toggle to On, then select a date and time to publish your video
Note: Vidyard uses the system time on your computer to determine the timezone in which the date is set. For example, if your computer's clock is set to use Eastern Standard Time, the scheduled date and time for your video's release or expiry will also be set in EST.
Once the video has been released, you can refer back to the time and date when it was published under Settings > Schedule Video on the video's edit page.
If you want to prevent viewers from watching the video again until a future date, simply slide the toggle for the setting Off/On, then schedule a new date and time.
You can also toggle the release date setting Off at any time prior to the scheduled time and date. As a result, the video will then be immediately available for viewers to watch wherever it has been shared.
Schedule when a video expires (un-publishes)
When you schedule a video to expire (un-publish), viewers may continue to access the sharing page or website where the video is embedded; however, the video itself will no longer be available to watch after the scheduled time has passed.
After un-publishing, a message displays to indicate that the video has expired and can no longer be viewed.
An expired video is still available to you within your video library, but will not be playable anywhere that it has been shared or embedded.
- Select a video from your library to edit its settings
- Select Settings > Scheduled Video from the left-hand menu
- Switch the Expiry Date toggle to On, then select the date and time when you want your video to expire
Once a video has expired, you can refer back to the time and date when it was un-published under Settings > Scheduled Video on the video's edit page.
To allow viewers to watch your video again, select Reactivate Video to make it available. You can also toggle off the Expiry Date setting at any time prior to the scheduled time and date.
Schedule when a playlist publishes or expires
Playlists inherit the majority of their behaviour from the settings applied to individual videos in the list, including the settings to schedule when a video publishes or expires.
To schedule when a playlist publishes or expires, enable either setting on any of the videos that belong to the playlist.
- Click on the title of a playlist from your library
- Select a video from the list to open its edit page
- Select Settings > Schedule Video from the left-hand menu, then toggle either setting On to set a time and date
Playlists with multiple scheduled videos
If a playlist contains multiple videos that you've scheduled to either publish later or expire, the following behaviour applies:
- For playlists with more than 1 video scheduled to publish later, Vidyard uses the time & date furthest in the future
- For playlists with more than 1 video scheduled to expire (un-publish), Vidyard uses the time & date closest to the present
