The Vidyard Chrome extension allows you to create and share videos, even when your internet connection unexpectedly drops in quality or fails altogether.

When creating a new video, the Chrome extension temporarily keeps your recording in the area of your computer's local storage utilized by Google Chrome.

If you experience network problems while making a video, the recording will continue as normal. Vidyard will hold on to the video in your computer's local storage until your internet connection improves. You will then have the option to recover the video.

What to expect when a video fails to upload

Should the quality of your internet connection drop, recording will continue as normal. Once recording has finished, Vidyard will display the following Chrome notification:

Vidyard Chrome notification, indicating your network connect may not be working. Reconnect, then open extension to recover video.

Check your internet connection. It may not be performing optimally.

Recover your video

Once you have regained an optimal internet connection:

  1. Re-open the Chrome extension. You will be prompted to either Recover or Discard your recording.
Vidyard prompt that appears when reopening the Chrome extension and a video is able to be recovered. Options: recover or discard.
  2. If you choose Recover, your video will begin to upload
    • You may not immediately see the thumbnail or be able to seek throughout the video. Wait momentarily for the the video to finish encoding.

If your video still fails to recover, check the upload speed on your internet connection again.

You can also attempt to reload the Chrome extension or restart your browser altogether (command + q on Mac, or ctrl + shift +q on Windows). Then try to recover the video again.
