How to create an Action (CTA) for a Folder
Actions (CTAs) are a great way to increase engagement with your videos and guide viewers to take a next step in the buyer's journey — to book a meeting, fill out a form, go to your website, and much more.
In this article, you'll learn about:
- the relationship between Actions and Folders
- how to create a new Action in a folder
- how to edit and assign an Action to your videos
Actions and Folders
Unless you choose to create a Team Action, most Actions in Vidyard are folder-based. This means that the Action can only be assigned to videos within the same folder.
Aligning your Actions to folders allows you to create CTAs that support the purpose and the goal of the videos that you've grouped together.
In the example below, you can see how different folders contain Actions suited to the purpose of the group of videos.
- The Sales folder contains an Action that prompts viewers to book a meeting with someone from your team.
- The August Campaign folder has an Action that requires viewers to submit their email address in a form before being allowed to watch the video. Some videos also have a CTA that directs viewers to pricing information about your product.
- The July Campaign folder has an Action to book a meeting with an inbound Sales team to help create more pipeline

Edit your Action
Different types of Actions have different fields and settings that you can edit. See the table below to learn more about the settings relevant to each Action type.
- Give your Action a name and description
- A good name tells other users what the Action is for. Use the description to make notes for other editors.
- Edit the text of your Action's message and button
- Switch the settings toggles under the Advanced Options section ON or OFF to change how the Action behaves (e.g. only show the Action once, allow your viewer to skip, etc.)
- Select Save or Save and Assign to proceed
Setting | Action Type |

Assign your Actions to videos
Once you've finished customizing an Action, you can assign it to 1 or more videos in the current folder.
- Select the Assign tab, then click on + Add Video
- Click on the plus button + beside 1 or more videos to assign the Action
- You can also use the search bar to find videos more quickly
- Select Close when you've finished selecting videos
- Select when the Action appears during playback (before, during, or after the video plays) for each selected video
- Click on PRE or POST to make the Action appear before or after the video plays
- Alternatively, drag the slider to make the Action appear at a specific moment during the video
- Select Save to confirm your changes
Setting your Action as a default
When assigning your Actions, you can use the Default toggle to automatically apply an Action to all videos within the folder. Default Actions apply to all new and existing videos.
When toggled ON, you can choose where your default Action will appear—either before, during, or after all videos in the folder. The position of the default varies based on the type of Action.

*With either a Banner or Annotation-style Action, you must choose a duration for the Action. Enter a value in the Start and End fields to indicate at what second the Action appears and disappears during playback. |
How to delete your Action
You can delete any unwanted Actions from your library, so long as you have permission to Edit Videos. When you delete an Action:
- the Action is removed from all videos that it's been assigned to
- all related Action Analytics are removed from Video Insights
Deleting an Action is permanent and cannot be reversed.
- Select the Actions icon from the main menu
- Click on the menu icon (3 dots) next to the Action you want to delete, then select Delete
- Select Delete again to confirm your choice
