Vidyard browser and device requirements
General requirements to use Vidyard across different devices and browsers
We built Vidyard to be used pretty much anywhere on the web. That’s true whether you’re watching videos as a viewer or someone using our apps to record, share or access your library of content.
But, as with any web-based technology, we’re always adapting to stay current with the latest browser and OS updates. At the same time, we aim to provide support for the widest possible range of users.
That’s why we put together a list of general requirements to ensure that—no matter how you use Vidyard—your device and browser are compatible.
Viewing videos in browser (supported playback)
The Vidyard video player is designed to work in any browser that supports HTML5 and uses TLS 1.2 security protocol to transmit data.
What does that mean? Nowadays, HTML5 is widely supported. So in the simplest terms, you can use any of the major browsers to watch Vidyard videos. The same is true for most mobile devices that use Android or iOS as their operating system.
That being said, it is our recommendation that you keep your browser as up to date as possible. Our team works hard to support different browser iterations, but regular changes outside of our control (e.g. security fixes) may force us to stop or modify support for certain browsers.

The fallback player
In a few scenarios, we'll automatically switch to use our fallback player in order to deliver video to the viewer instead.
The fallback player is designed, at a minimum, to allow basic playback of the video. The player no longer receives resources for active development, fixes or testing, and may not meet certain WCAG accessibility criteria.
Some features (e.g. playback speed, in-video actions) may not behave as expected.

A note about Windows support
Note: as of January 7, 2020 Microsoft has ended support for Windows 7. Similarly, Microsoft's support for Internet Explorer 11 ended on June 15, 2022.
Vidyard is an OS-friendly platform, so feel free to use whatever operating system you have on hand: Mac, Windows, Linux. As long as you’re viewing videos in a supported browser, you’re good to go 👍
The main exception to note is the combination of Windows 7 and IE11.
Windows 7 and IE11 do not have the built-in technology to support adaptive streaming (HLS). For this reason, the following features are unavailable when viewing videos with this browser/OS combination:
- Live stream: live streams will fail to load and you'll be presented with the following error:
Player has failed to load. Your browser/OS combination does not support live streaming.
- Multiple audio tracks: if the video has multiple audio tracks, only the first available track will load with the player. You will be unable to switch between different tracks.
Supported browsers for using your Vidyard account (secure.vidyard.com)
You can sign in and use your Vidyard account using the latest versions of most major browsers.
As with our video player, it is recommended that you keep your browser as up to date as possible. Ongoing updates from browsers may introduce changes outside of our control (e.g. security fixes) and affect our ability to support previous versions of browsers.

Support for in-video Actions (CTAs) on mobile devices
Vidyard allows you to add Actions to your videos. Actions (or CTAs) are interactive elements such as forms, links or images that prompt your viewers to "act" or take a next step in response to your video.
So long as viewers watch your video in a supported browser, the actions that you've added to the video will appear during playback.
However, there are some exceptions when viewing videos on a mobile device. This largely depends on the mobile OS (operating system) and the type of action.
Note: the following chart assumes use of the default browser for each operating system (Chrome for Android devices, Safari for iOS)
