Users must have the Edit videos permission enabled.

Descriptions, tags, and notes allow you to add context to a video and tell others (both human and non-human) what your video is all about.

  • Use a description to let viewers know about your video and pique their interest

  • Along with tags, descriptions allow search engines like Google (robots) to understand what your video is about and improve your ranking in search results

  • Internal notes are for you and your team only. Use notes to jot down helpful info about your video like version numbers, campaign IDs, instructions for sharing—anything you need to either communicate with other Vidyard users, or keep tabs on.

Edit a video's description, tags and notes

  1. Select a video from your library to open the edit page
  2. Select the dropdown arrow next to Description, Tags and Internal Notes
  3. Enter a description, or add notes or tags as needed

About video descriptions

Viewers can see your video description in the following places:

Where your video description appears Notes
Internet search results
In a Video Hub
On your video sharing page
On YouTube

The description field has a character limit of 5000. Angled brackets (either < or >) are not supported.

About tags

Tags let you add keywords to your videos and playlists, making it easy to search and find videos in your library.

Tags also improve the discoverability of your embedded videos. When search engines crawl your webpage, video tags are indexed along with the video name, description and caption transcripts.

Additional benefits of tags:

To add tags to a video or playlist:

  2. Select the dropdown arrow next to Description, Tags and Internal Notes

Tag character limits

  • # of characters per tag: max 100
  • total combined # of tag characters per video: max 500
Note: A space actually counts as 3 characters, so try to avoid using multiple tags with separated words.

About internal notes

Notes are great way to provide additional information about a video to other team members. Only users that belong to a Team with the Edit videos permission can see internal notes.

You might use internal notes to:

  • List the version number of the video, or your marketing campaign IDs
  • Note who last edited the video, what was changed, and on what date
  • Include instructions for others on where and how to share the video (what channels, messaging and hashtags, etc)
  • Add reminders to update the video (e.g. "change logo at 1:32")

The Internal Notes field has a character limit of 5000. Angled brackets (either < or >) are not supported.
