About Vidyard's video player
Want to learn more about Vidyard’s video player? This article will walk you through each element of the video player and how they work.
Whether you’re a user or a viewer, the information below can help you make the most of your Vidyard video experience.
Video play or pause button
Used to start and stop the video. Can be controlled via mouse, pressing the space bar, or by using tab to highlight the button.
Video timeline
Also known as the "scrubber bar", it's the interactive bar at the bottom of a video that allows you to navigate playback.
Video timestamp
The timestamp shows you where you are in the video, in the format HH:MM:SS.
Video chapters
Labeled sections that break down a video into smaller, more digestible pieces. Selecting the chapter name and icon on the video player opens a menu that lists all available chapters. You can select any chapter from the list to skip to that chapter.
Each small circular marker on the video timeline indicates a new chapter. Hover over the circle to see the chapter name, and click on it to navigate to that chapter.
For more information, read our article on How to use chapters in your videos.
Video captions
The Captions (CC) button turns captions on and off on the video. You can choose the language of your captions by selecting Video settings.
For more information, read our article on How to add captions to your video.
Video settings
Video settings let you control how the video player behaves.
- Quality - The displayed video resolution. Auto automatically adjusts the quality based on your connection, or you can select a resolution yourself (e.g., 360p, 480p, 720p, etc.).
- Speed - How quickly the video (and audio) plays. You can select between 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x speed.
- Captions - Choose the caption language that is displayed if you've enabled captions.
If you uploaded a video with multiple audio tracks, you'll see an Audio option to switch which track you're listening to.
Sound control
Hover over the sound control icon to turn the video's volume up and down, or select the icon to mute and unmute the video.
Player size options
Each icon indicates how to change the video player's size. The full-screen option is visible anywhere you share your video (sharing page, embedded on an external webpage, etc.), while theater and picture-in-picture modes are only available on the video's sharing page.
- Full-screen - Selecting this option enlarges the video to fit your screen. Selecting it again shrinks it back to its original size.
-
Theater mode (Sharing page only) - Selecting this option stretches the video to fit the width of your screen, without hiding any of the rest of your sharing page's customization.
-
Picture-in-picture (PiP) (Sharing page only) - Selecting this option opens a smaller, floating version of the video that remains active even when switching tabs or windows. You can minimize this pop-up, choose to navigate back to the sharing page, or close it.
Video sharing options
Select this button to view all available sharing methods for the video player. These can include the following options:
- Link - Either a link to the video's sharing page, or a link to the sharing page with a specific timestamp.
- Embed - Select the type of embed you'd like (thumbnail, responsive inline, responsive lightbox, iframe, or sharing page) and copy the code to your clipboard.
- Social - Make a post with this video to your X, Facebook, or LinkedIn accounts, or add this video to an email in your platform of choice (Gmail, Outlook, etc.).
